Oh Danny Boy...

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack (for a short post, but back is back). In my long awaited return to the blogosphere and Love Boat Sports I am here to breakdown all the crazy happenings in Big Brother 14 including why I think Dan’s move was overrated and why Shane has put himself in the best position to win the game.

My proudest day as a fan

As a sports fan there are not many times when you can actually be proud of your fan base. The overwhelming amount of joy or anguish you experience comes from your team’s performance on the field. Today though, is a day where I couldn’t be more proud to be a Vikings fan because of what the incredible fan base has made happen. Only three weeks ago it looked like the Vikings’ stadium deal was done and it was only a matter of time until they followed the Lakers to LA. But thanks to a visit from Roger Goodell, Governor Mark Dayton’s tireless efforts, Senator Julie Rosen’s hard work, and the incredible support from Vikings fans, the Vikings are going to stay in Minnesota for at least another 45 years. At one point, anti-stadium politicians said that the majority of Minnesota was against this bill, this was until Viking fans got going and started emailing, calling, and writing state legislators to get the deal done.

The timeless start of baseball

It really is amazing what the sense of smell can do to you. Thanks to the recent episode of 30 Rock, Tracy Morgan has taught me that the sense of smell is actually the most important sense for memory. For me, and millions of others across the home of the brave, the smell of spring means only one thing: It’s baseball season.

Why Jay is dumber than James

This episode of Survivor was one of the most frustrating episodes to watch as I can remember. I found myself literally yelling at Jay through the TV screen to get his head out of his ass and start figuring things out. I guess the most frustrating thing was that Jay was close to getting it. His confessionals throughout the show alternated between how suspicious he was of the girls to how much he trusted Kim and Chelsea. Maybe I am just in a post-episode haze, but I honestly believe Jay's play tonight was dumber than James getting voted out in China.

Why you should see the Hunger Games, even if you don't want to

I was extremely skeptical when I bought my ticket for The Hunger Games on Saturday night. I feared that the movie would just be a different version of the Twilight Series, but after seeing the film, the only comparison between the two is that they were based on a series of books. And had The Hunger Games not been based on a book series, there is no way anyone would put them in the same sentence. Before I get to why you need to see it, let me first break down what it’s about, even with all the hype the movie has been getting, I’ve still found a lot of people don’t actually know any of the plot.

I Know What You Did Last Summer, I think: Revisiting the 90s teen horror classic

I Know What You Did Last Summer was one of the first horror movies I can remember seeing. It was a big step for me after Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas gave me nightmares. I vividly remember walking into my sister's room while the movie was playing. She wasn't really paying attention, otherwise she probably would not have let me watch it. A lot like the time I was watching American Pie in her room and she shut it off after first scene when Jim is trying to watch porn. Anyway, the two things I distinctly remember were developing a huge crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar that continued throughought the Buffy series, and being terrified of the fisherman with the giant hook. Now last night when it came on Cinemax, I had no choice but to re-watch the late 90s cult classic.

March Madness at its best

March Madness is a wonderful thing.  Every year produces some amount of madness and resulting ecstasy.  However because awesome upsets are a common occurrence, sometimes we overlook and forget about the great games.  To help you out with this problem, members of the LBS staff will be writing about some of their favorite March Madness games.  Enjoy.

Survivor: One World Power Rankings

Wow. I have watched pretty much every episode of Survivor, and that was just about as crazy and good as it gets. Before I get to my power rankings, let me just say how idiotic it was of the guys to give up tribal immunity. There are way too many things that can happen to make giving up the numbers worth while. Especially in a men vs. women season where there will obviously be a tribe swap! In the preview for next week it’s clear that the swap is coming, and now the men are guaranteed to be down numbers in one of the two new tribes. Also, even though I also thought it was dumb when Zapatera threw a challenge to get rid of Russell, at least Russell had some history and they viewed him as a cancer. Bill did nothing wrong! All he did was not get along with Colton. I guess this is what happens when you’re led by a misfit alliance, you get misfit decisions.

With these rankings, keep in mind everything could change due to the result of the upcoming tribe swap.

Here are the Rankings:

1. Kim

Kim is in the best spot to win the game right now. She is quietly controlling the girls while the guys and some of the girls think Sabrina is in charge. That's the best position to be in on Survivor, controlling the game with no target on your back.

2. Jonas

Jonas is riding Colton’s coattails now, but I think he is smart enough to make a big move at some point to put himself in position to win the game. He is also laid back enough to get along with the girls on his new tribe.

Flying Solo: The Art of the Steven Glansberg

Steven Glansberg. What can you say? A hero to many, a loner to some, and both to nearly everyone else. Steven Glansberg certainly has given me the confidence to do activities on my own, and I hope I can carry on his message to you. I have had a lot of time to myself this semester at home, and I now will give you some activities to do on your own.

Super Bowl Fun with #15

If you bet with me on the conference championship games you're doing pretty well, I went 3-1 overall and nailed both my game picks. But after losing 75,000 dollars on the Pro Bowl, it's time I got back to my winning ways. These picks are as good as gold.

Where we Stand Now

I’ve been about the biggest possible Nationals fan since their first game in 2005. And not since that first game, have I literally felt a tingling feeling excitement pulse throughout my body. That being said, this tingling feeling is more one of cautious optimism than blind faith in the team. I now bring you my breakdown of the Nationals’ off-season, and where we stand going forward.

#15's Shoe-Ins

Championship Sunday. For most football fans, it's right up there with Super Sunday. But for a Vikings fan like myself, the idea of championship Sunday makes me wake up in cold sweats thinking about haunting memories. And even though my team has never won a Super Bowl and went 3-13 this year, I still took incredible joy in watching the Pukers choke away a 15-1 season. With that in mind, I am incredibly excited for all the match ups this weekend. So, in the words of Sean Connery, "the game is on."

Why Sophie Deserved it

Until the final seven, Survivor South Pacific was one of the most predictable seasons ever. Luckily, one of the best finales in recent memory was able to salvage the season. Sophie, who many critics have said did not deserve the million dollar check, absolutely played the best game, and I will tell you exactly how she pulled it off.

Sohpie's first smart move was aligning with Coach. It is definitely dangerous aligning with a returning player, given the fact that they are an automatic threat, but she knew that Coach wanted to play with honesty and integrity, and, if you're not playing by those values, aligning with someone who is, is genius. Although she was lucky to be sitting out on the beach that second night with Coach, Albert, Rick, and Brandon, her and Albert were the only ones not blindly committed to following everything Coach says. She even said in an interview, that she aligned with these people because they were, "religious nut cases" that wouldn't lie.

Have we Gone Soft?

The question is simple: Have we as a society gone soft?  The reaction to the Xavier-Cincinatti fight was an embarrassment. We have gotten to the point where every time a fight breaks out in a sporting event, the so called "experts" act like the participants need to go to therapy and take a long hard look at their life. I am not saying that fighting should be a major part of team sports, or advocating ridiculous brawls like the melee at Auburn Hills or the sucker punch that Lagarrette Blount threw, but there is a time and a place where fighting in sports is necessary.

Pondering the Future

It is pretty hard to believe that only two years ago, the Minnesota Vikings were one play away from the Super Bowl. Since then its been a comedy of errors only comparable to Shane Falco's epic collapse in the '98 Sugar Bowl. The only way to look to the future, is to understand how we got here.

Best Sports Commercials

A little vacation through time, and your vehicle is sports commercials. I couldn't give these outright rankings, so they are grouped by what they are advertising for. Also all of these products should pay me for the vast amount of publicity I am giving them. Enjoy.

The D.C. Metro is one of the most under appreciated features of the nation's best city. Washington boasts one of the best train system in the United States. It's cleaner than NYC's more useful than Chicago, and more existent than L.A.'s I give you here, the top stations on the Metro.

The Art of the Backup

Is there a greater job in sports than being a backup Quarterback? The easy answer is yes, being a starting quarterback, and that would also be right. But for those not talented enough to make it as a starter, there is nothing better than the life of a career backup quarterback. The problem is that many backup quarterback’s careers are cut short when they are forced onto the gridiron and we can see how inept they really are at playing the position. Others can avoid the starting role seemingly by choice. This is a tribute to those men.

The Best of the Best (Sir, with honors)

Jim Sorgi: If there was an America's Next Top Model for wearing headsets, Jim Sorgi would win every year. Sorgi milked a seven year career out of virtually no talent. After looking and playing exactly like every other Wisconsin quarterback ever, he went to the Colts where he sat behind Peyton Manning. It was in Indianapolis where he accomplished every backup quarterback's dream, never starting a game. That being said, Sorgi also possessed another key skill of a backup, playing well in garbage time to avoid being cut. Sorgi finished his career with a quarterback rating better than the likes of Dan Marino, Warren Moon, Fran Tarkenton, and Bart Starr. Curtis Painter was set to be the next Sorgi, but after abysmal play this year, he will never achieve Sorgi's level of success.

Career Highlight: Winning a Super Bowl ring with the Colts.
